Rock Music in Antarctica

Metallica played a concert in Antarctica on 8 December 2013, near the heliport of the Argentine Antarctic base Carlini. The audience of 120 included scientists from around the world, and the winners of a contest sponsored by Coca–Cola Zero for fans in Latin America. In order to meet international Antarctic environmental protocol, the band played with no amplification; the sound was transmitted to the audience through headphones.

Entitled Freeze 'em All (a play on Kill 'em All, the title of Metallica's first album), the show was also live–streamed and filmed for later release. An album version was released, online only, later the same month.
